Scam

My father got a call from a marriage bureau from chandrapur few days ago. The girl on the other side asked if it is ok if they show us potential marriage matches. My father refused. Here in our caste, matchmaking works through contacts of known people. Marriage bureau is not the way for us people. I know it has got tough nowadays to find potential marriages through known people, so many of us follow the way of a marriage bureau. Back to the incident, my father refused. That girl on the other side said, you don’t have to pay any fees, we will share girl’s biodata and photo, if you are interested, only then you have to pay the fees. My father said ok, let’s see.

She sent 1-2 biodatas first. The girls were ok. I don’t usually step in until my father and mother give a go for a potential girl. So for those 1-2 biodatas, I had no role in it. But few days ago, a new biodata popped up on my father’s phone along with the girl’s photograph. This time my father shared that with me. He said look at this girl, if ok, we may proceed. I asked from where this came. I do ask this everytime my father shares any biodata. He said a marriage bureau from chandrapur shared this. I looked at the biodata and then I took a look on the photograph. I was like, if it is from a marriage bureau, why even look at this Papa – but I did not say anything to my father. I shared that with my sister. She gave a go to the photograph, my parents gave go to the biodata. I had no choice apart from saying it is ok then. The marriage bureau girl was calling again and again, she was saying that she has to give answer to the other side. My father affirmed her. My father said ok and we want to proceed for the next step i.e. to go look the girl and family. Then that marriage bureau girl said that now you will have to pay fees so that we can give you contact details of this girl’s parents. They are interested too, but we kept them on hold only because you are not registered and verified. This seemed normal to my father, he asked how much do we have to pay. She said, you have to pay ₹3,000/- for a year and even if something does not work out with this girl, we will send you other potential matches for whole year. My father was ready and asked her to send the account number to transfer the money. He sent that account number to me and told me to transfer the money.

Now the real fun starts. Please bear with this paragraph. The sole purpose of this paragraph is humor (or comedy).
Do you know coffee has superpowers!? I certainly feel so. Coffee is so powerful that even the thought of preparing coffee activates your brain – he he. Hunter S. Thompson used to have 20 cups a day. I was like, first I’ll prepare coffee and then transfer the money. As soon as I thought to prepare coffee, a thought clicked in my mind. (Paragraph ends, humor ends)

I thought something is off with this photograph. Why not I reverse search the photograph of the girl on internet? I am a computer nerd, so thinking these things is normal for me. The water was boiling for coffee and I was grinding the coffee beans. I reverse searched the photograph. I found hundreds of search results of that photograph. So clearly that photograph was copied from internet. Then all the scam of that marriage bureau unfolded. The biodata was fake and the photo was copied from the internet. So all this was a scam for a mere ₹3000/-. I was like – brilliant. I told this to my parents and they were like – brilliant. What is brilliant is not the marriage bureau people, but Me.

Now starts the more real fun. That marriage bureau girl called again. I received the phone. I asked that girl her name. I told her that I liked the girl she shared so much that I was not able to sleep the whole night (he he – I love this kind of humor). ₹3,000/- seems so little, I want to send these guys ₹10,000/-. But only thing they should care now is – The photograph and the biodata should match for real. If it doesn’t, you guys are all f***ed up. You guys should think about cyber crime, fraud, the most important the scar of defeat.Because I have all the calls recorded and all the proofs of their whole scheme, and if that girl doesn’t exist, you all guys are facing jail and court for a mere ₹3000/-. You can imagine the marriage bureau girl’s reactions. Reaction of a defeat and shame. The aftermath is, the marriage bureau head calling me again and again not to make a police complaint (I don’t care for a police complaint, I won’t too). My parents are more prouder now. And me, be this or not, I am always at peace – smiling proud.
